Letters of love - a lasting gift of love

Imagine for a moment that you’re grieving after the death of a loved one, perhaps your spouse or a parent. You find a letter written for you. It’s your loved one’s voice, assuring you of their enduring love, sharing an inside joke or a heartwarming anecdote to lighten your spirit. Imagine it’s your birthday and their absence is a profound ache in your heart. Another letter from your loved one reminding you their love is always with you, encouraging you to embrace the day and imparting their wisdom for the journey ahead.

There are no words to capture the solace found in these ongoing emotional connections with our loved ones. They are a tangible thread binding us to their memory and affection.

This is the magic of Letters of Love.

There are no rules when it comes to Letters of Love. It’s an opportunity to express your heart’s deepest sentiments, and there’s no right or wrong way to do it.

Think about the recipient of each letter. Would they find comfort in humour or prefer a more solemn farewell? Personalising your approach, along with the memories and emotions you share, will allow the uniqueness of your bond to shine through.

You might go one step further and record a video of yourself reading the letter. It doesn’t require a grand production – a simple smartphone or webcam will suffice. (Though, if grand production is your style, that would be amazing!).

Give thought to how you will store your letters and, if you opt for videos, your recordings. Letters of Love aren’t much use if the recipient can’t find or access them.

For hard copy letters, consider keeping them with your other estate planning documents so your executor can distribute them after your death. For video recordings, we suggest making a note that there is a recording on or with your letters. You need to carefully think about how you will digitally store those videos, and how you will share access information like passwords.

In today’s digital age, you have the extraordinary opportunity to transcend time and leave a lasting imprint on the world. Your legacy can extend far beyond your years, resonating across generations.

We live in an age where your great-great-grandchildren can see and hear you, comprehend your thoughts, and draw inspiration from your journey. Imagine the impact you can have, simply by sharing your authentic self.

Your only limit is your imagination. Take a moment to close your eyes, breathe deeply, and reflect on your loved ones, the moments you’ve shared, and how deeply you cherish each of them. Then, let your heart guide your words. Remember, to your loved ones, heartfelt words – be they of love, forgiveness, advice, or cherished memories – are more precious than gold, more captivating than anything ever written by Shakespeare. All you need to do is take that first step and start writing.
